Maple Leafs blank Kings for seconds straight shutout
Ilya Samsonov followed up Matt Murray’s 44-save shutout in Dallas with a 29-save shutout of his own on Thursday. After a scoreless first period, the Maple Leafs erupted for four goals in the second period, including a Mitch Marner tally that extended his point streak to 21 games. Toronto’s top line led the way with Auston Matthews (1G), William Nylander (1G/1A), and Michael Bunting (2A) combining for two goals and three assists. The only negative news for the Maple Leafs was Nick Robertson left the game in the first period with an shoulder injury and did not return, and Pierre Engvall could face supplemental discipline from the NHL after a dangerous slash on Sean Durzi.

Elliott wins his sixth straight games as Lightning top Predators
Brian Elliott was outstanding on Thursday, stopping 34 of the 36 shots he faced in the Lightning’s 5-2 win over the Predators. It was Elliott’s sixth straight victory and best performance of the season. Tampa shuffled their entire lineup before the game, and it worked well, especially their new-look second line. Brayden Point opened the scoring just 1:16 into the game and added his 13th of the season in the third period. Nashville’s only goals came from some unexpected sources, as Mark Jankowski scored a shorthanded goal for his third of the year and Alexandre Carrier scored his first of the campaign.
Panthers dominate Red Wings in Barkov’s return
Barkov returned from a six-game absence due to reported pneumonia and picked up one assist and two shots in 17:12 TOI. Sergei Bobrovsky backed up a strong relief appearance on Tuesday with a 19-save performance on Thursday. The Panthers’ offence came from various sources, with 13 players picking up at least one point. Matthew Tkachuk was the only player with multiple points, scoring his 13th goal and 24th assist of the season.
Jets’ top-6 stays red-hot vs. Blues
For the third straight game, the Jets scored five goals, as they topped the Blues 5-2. Their top-6 continues to hum along, as they had multi-point efforts from Pierre-Luc Dubois (2G/1A), Blake Wheeler (1G/1A), Mark Scheifele (2A), and Neal Pionk (2A). Connor Hellebuyck continues to operate as one of the best goalies in Fantasy Hockey, stopping 29 of 31 shots in the win. Since winning seen in a row in November, the Blues have dropped seven of their last nine games while being outscored 46 to 29 (5.1 to 3.2 per game).
Stars go back-and-forth with Send but win in OT
The Stars jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with back-to-back goals from Miro Heiskanen. The Senators responded later in the period with goals from Derick Brassard and Thomas Chabot. For Chabot, it was his ninth point (3G/6A) in seven games since returning from injury. Meanwhile, Stars’ defenseman Nils Lundkvist had the best game of his young career, scoring one goal and one assist in 16:18 TOI. Tyler Seguin ended the game with the overtime winner, his fifth of the season.
