We will highlight injuries affecting today’s games, hot streaks, cold streaks, and anything relevant for everyone from the casual hockey fan to the Fantasy Hockey grinder.

Goaltending on full display in Canadiens’ shootout win

Both Jake Allen and Jacob Markstrom were outstanding on Monday night. Allen stopped 34 of 35 shots in the Habs’ shootout win, while Markstrom was the tough-luck loser while turning aside 37 of 38. For Allen, it was the second time in two weeks that he dominated the Flames–he’s now 2-0 while stopping 79 of the 81 shots (.975 SV%) he’s faced vs. Calgary. Unfortunately, injuries were also a theme of the night. It started with Elias Lindholm (upper-body) and MacKenzie Weegar (illness), who were scratched pre-game. It was followed by Cole Caufield (upper-body), who left after a collision with Trevor Lewis and then Chris Tanev, who took a shot off the face. Despite the loss, Jonathan Huberdeau picked up another goal, giving him 13 points (4G / 9A) in his last 16 games, as he tries to rebound from a tough start to the season.

Malkin scores late to push Penguins past Stars

The Stars scored on their first shot of the game, with Roope Hintz tallying his 12th of the season just 19 seconds into the first period. Tristan Jarry would shut the door after that, stopping the next 26 shots he faced. Filling in for an injured Jeff Petry on PP2, Pierre-Olivier Joseph fired home his first of the season to tie the game late in the first period. Both teams would go scoreless for the next 47 minutes of play before Evgeni Malkin called game with 35 seconds left. Jason Zucker was the only player with multiple points, picking up assists on both goals.

Rangers come from behind to beat Devils in OT

The Devils got off to a fast start, taking a 2-0 lead just 4:46 into the game. They mostly dominated the first half of play, but the Rangers scored two goals seven seconds apart in the second period to go into the intermission with an unexpected 3-3 tie. After a scoreless third period, the game went to overtime. New Jersey would control the puck for the first two minutes of the frame, but Artemi Panarin found Filip Chytil, who fired home the OT winner on the Rangers’ first rush.

Despite the loss, it was another great performance from Jack Hughes, who scored a highlight reel goal in the second period and has now picked up 90 points (41G / 49A) in his last 77 games (since the start of last season).

Talbot blanks Ducks in Ottawa

Cam Talbot and Alex DeBrincat were game-time decisions heading into Monday’s game, and both ended up being difference-makers for the Senators in their 3-0 win. Talbot stopped all 32 shots he faced for his sixth win and first shutout of the season. DeBrincat scored two power-play goals to extend his point streak to six games, picking up seven points (3G / 4A) during that time. Unfortunately for the Senators, it looks like Tim Stützle could miss some time after suffering an upper-body in the first period.

Wild edge out Oilers in a tight-checking affair

The Wild and Oilers met for the third time in two weeks, and the home team won for the third straight time. The Wild are able to get Joel Eriksson Ek out vs. Connor McDavid on home ice, and he’s done a great job shutting down the league’s leading scorer in two meetings in Minnesota. Matt Boldy led the way offensively, picking up the first goal of the game on the power-play and dishing a silky feed to Frederick Gaudreau for the eventual game-winner in the second period.

Schenn scores OT winner in goaltending duel

Jordan Binnington started for the second night in a row and was excellent again, stopping all 25 shots he faced for his 10th win and second shutout of the season. Juuse Saros was equally impressive at the other end, turning aside 23 of 24 shots in defeat. After starting the season 3-6-1 with an .892 SV% in his first 10 games, Saros has gone 6-2-2 with a .922 SV% in his last 10. The win was just the third in the previous 11 games for St. Louis, who are still two games below .500 on the season.
