Daily NHL Betting Guide – 01/10/23

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Betting site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on Betway odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets 💰

Carolina Hurricanes (vs. NJD) ML -147

The Hurricanes are in the middle of a shocking three-year losing skid, despite outshooting their opponents 132 to 73 (44 to 24 per game). In those three games, they’ve won the xG battle 12.1 to 9.0. Carolina caught fire in late November, and in their last 20 games, they lead the NHL in xGF/60 (3.63) with the lowest xGA/60 (2.55), going 15-2-3 in the process. They’ve been dominant. In the same time, New Jersey is 17th in xGF% (51.24) and 9-8-3, falling back to the field after a ridiculously hot start. Carolina are -147 home favourites, but the model sees them at -180, so there’s a lot of value here.

2 Unit Bet: CAR ML -147

St. Louis Blues (vs. CGY) ML +145

Despite many injuries, the Blues have played well recently, winning three of their last four games while outscoring their opponents 18 to 13. Calgary continues to search for consistency as they come in following a 4-3 overtime loss in Chicago. The road has been an issue for the Flames, going 7-7-6 in 20 road games. Getting the Blues as +145 home favourites is solid value–the model views them as +103 underdogs.

1 Unit Bet: STL ML +145

Colorado Avalanche (vs. FLA) ML -126

The Avalanche are coming off an impressive overtime win in Edmonton over the weekend. They did an outstanding job limiting Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl at 5v5 and will look to do the same tonight vs. Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk. The Panthers have underperformed to date, but the market still has a lot of respect for them. The model thinks the Avalanche are massive -172 favourites, so getting them at -126 is a play.

2 Unit Play: COL ML -126
