Daily NHL Betting Guide – 01/12/23

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Betting site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on Betway odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets 💰

Columbus Blue Jackets (vs. CAR)

The Blue Jackets just beat the Hurricanes on home ice less than a week ago, so why not take a chance on them again tonight at +277? The model still thinks the Hurricanes are huge -208 favourites, but with CBJ at +208, there’s plenty of value on Columbus tonight.

1 Unit Bet: CBJ +277

Montreal Canadiens (vs. NSH)

With Juuso Saros starting last night, either Kevin Lankinen (unavailable yesterday due to illness) or Yaroslav Askarov (NHL debut) are expected to start for Nashville. The model sees Montreal as +112 underdogs, so there’s value on them at +156.

1 Unit Bet: MTL +156

Toronto Maple Leafs (@ DET)

The Maple Leafs were able to beat Saros and the Predators last night without Auston Matthews. Tonight Matthews will be a game-time decision, so you could get a huge boost on Toronto at -142. The model views Toronto as -185 favourites, so there’s a lot to like here.

2 Unit Bet: TOR -142

St. Lous Blues (vs. CGY)

The Blues just pulled out a win over the Flames on Tuesday but remain home underdogs tonight. With both teams going to their backups, it will be a different game tonight. The model thinks it’s much closer than the +146 line suggests.

1 Unit Bet: STL +146
