Daily NHL Betting Guide – 01/13/23

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Betting site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on Betway odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets 💰

Winnipeg Jets (@ PIT) ML +160

The Jets seem to have a bug going around at the moment, but it hasn’t hit any of their star players yet, that we know of. Tonight they come in on a back-to-back against a Penguins team that will be rolling their No.3 goalie (Dustin Tokarski). These are two teams headed in opposite directions. The Jets have won six of their last seven while averaging 4.1 GF/gm. Meanwhile, the Penguins have lost six of their last eight with the only two wins coming against the Coyotes and the struggling Canucks. Getting a team as hot as the Jets (even without Hellebuyck) as +160 underdogs against the Penguins’ third-string starting goalie seems like an incredible value. The model agrees, with the Jets sitting at +127.

2 Unit Bet: WPG ML +160

Anaheim Ducks (vs. NJD) MLD +256

The Ducks are among the worst teams in the NHL, but they have some talent and have gotten good goaltending in spurts this season. They’ve come up with massive upset wins over the Stars, Golden Knights, Oilers and Hurricanes over the last six weeks, so we’ll take a swing at them tonight as massive +256 underdogs and hope that Mackenzie Blackwood goes for the Devils.
