Daily NHL Betting Guide – 01/17/23

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Betting site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on Betway odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets 💰

Anaheim Ducks (@ PHI) ML +184

The Ducks nearly escaped Pittsburgh with a win on Monday and will turn right around to take on the Flyers on Tuesday. Both teams are on a back-to-back, both teams will start their backup netminders, and both teams are in the bottom third of the NHL standings. The Flyers have played better as of late, but the model thinks them being -207 favourites is too much. It views Anaheim as +137 underdogs, so there’s great value on them at +184.

1 Unit Bet: ANA ML +184

Florida Panthers (@ TOR) ML +158

Are the Panthers showing signs of turning things around? They’ve won five of their last seven games while averaging 3.4 goals for and 3.1 goals against per game. Sergei Bobrovsky has been great and is projected to start again. He’s gone 4-1-0 with a .919 SV% in his last five outings. Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs’ confirmed starter, Matt Murray, has gone 3-3-0 with an .899 SV% in his last six starts. In their last 10 games, these two teams rank right beside each other in xGF%, so getting the Panthers are +158 is great value. The model views them as +123 road underdogs.

1 Unit Bet: FLA ML +158 (as long as Alex Lyon doesn’t start)
