Daily NHL Betting Guide – 01/18/23

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Betting site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on Betway odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets 💰

New York Islanders (vs. BOS) ML +172

The Islanders’ offence has struggled recently, scoring just 1.7 goals per game in their last six games. They’re making an attempt to jump-start things with some young blood from the NHL, as William Dufour will make his NHL debut, and Dennis Cholowski will make his Islanders debut on Wednesday. The Bruins continue to win games at an incredible rate, largely thanks to their great goaltending from Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman. Still, the model views the Islanders as smaller underdogs than the market suggests, so there’s value on the Isles at +172.

1 Unit Bet: NYI ML +172

Colorado Avalanche (@ CGY) ML +132

The Avalanche will be without Cale Makar on Wednesday, but there’s such a large disparity between the market and the model that this is still a recommended bet. The model sees Colorado as the favourite, while the market has them as sizeable underdogs (+132). Getting Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, and Co. as underdogs always feels solid, even if they’re underperformed at times this season. They come in having score 13 goals in their last two games.

1 Unit Bet: COL ML +132
