Daily NHL Betting Guide – 01/24/23

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Betting site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on Betway odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

BETTING GUIDE PRESENTED BY BETWAY

Season-to-date

  • Record: 78-66
  • Units: +19.53
  • ROI: +13.56%

Recommended Bets 💰

San Jose Sharks (@ DET) ML +131

The model views the Red Wings and Sharks as identical. The Sharks are +131 road underdogs but the model has them at +101. San Jose has played very well lately but just haven’t got the goaltending to win games. In their last 25 games, they have a 51.2 xGF%, which is better than Detroit’s 48.3 xGF% over the same span.

1 Unit Bet: SJS ML +131

Vegas Golden Knights (@ NJD) ML +151

The model seems to be high on the Golden Knights and low on the Devils, so this looks like a massive advantage. With the Golden Knights’ injuries, the edge probably isn’t as big as it seems, but there’s still obvious value on Vegas +151.

1 Unit Bet: VGK ML +151

Colorado Avalanche (vs. WSH) -151

Alex Ovechkin is questionable, T.J. Oshie (personal) likely won’t play and Cale Makar is likely to return, so injuries seem to be breaking in the Avs’ favour for once. Colorado has caught fire, winning five straight while outscoring their opponents 23 to 6. The model sees them as -195 home favourites, so jump on the -151 before it’s too late.

2 Unit Bet: COL -151
