Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Betting site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on Betway odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets 💰

Colorado Avalanche (@ PIT) ML -104

Colorado has been on an absolute tear as of late, winning seven of their last eight games while averaging 4.1 goals for and 1.9 goals against per game. They’re expected to get some reinforcements back on Tuesday, with Valeri Nichushkin re-joining their top-6 and Bowen Byram back in on the blueline. The model likes Colorado as -130 favourites, so there’s great value on them at -104.

2 Unit Bet: COL ML -104

New York Islanders (vs. SEA) ML -111

The Islanders played well Monday vs. the Flyers and are on the tail-end of a back-to-back on Tuesday. With Semyon Varlamov starting Monday, Ilya Sorokin will go tonight and he’s been arguably the best goalie in the NHL this season. Seattle is expected to get Matty Beniers, Jaden Schwartz, and Justin Schultz back on Tuesday, but they’ve been outperforming their Expected Goals for a while, thanks to a sky-high SH%. Regression will set in eventually, so it seems like a good time to fade the Kraken.

1 Unit Bet: NYI ML -111

Edmonton Oilers (@ DET) ML -158

The Oilers were playing extremely well heading into the All-Star break, winning seven of their last eight while averaging 5.0 goals for and 2.4 goals against per game. Over their last 25 games, they lead the NHL in xGF/60 and are fourth in xGF% (54.56%). In the same timeframe, Detroit is 26th in xGF% (47.77%). It seems like the Oilers should be larger favourites than -158, and the model agrees (-212).

3 Unit Bet: EDM ML -158

Vegas Golden Knights (@ NSH) ML -106

Vegas stumbled into the break, losing four in a row and seven of their last eight games while averaging 2.0 goals for and 3.3 goals against per game. They should get a boost with Zach Whitecloud returning to the blueline on Tuesday and are in a coin-flip game in Nashville. The model likes them at -144, so there’s plenty of value on this one.

1 Unit Bet: VGK ML -106
