Daily NHL Betting Guide – 03/21/23

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Betting site Betway!
Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.
During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.
NHL MODEL PICKS
Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.
You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.
The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on Betway odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

- 1 unit bet: MIN ML +154
Surprisingly, the Wild’s offence has been outstanding without Kirill Kaprizov, going 3-1-1 while averaging 4.8 goals per game. The Wild have lost in regulation just once in their last 16 games, going 12-1-3 while averaging 3.1 goals for and 2.1 goals against per game. The Devils are playing similarly well, winning 10 of their last 16, but the model thinks the +154 line is too extreme. Minnesota will have the edge in net, as Filip Gustavsson is 6-1-4 with a .940 SV% and two shutouts in his last 11 starts. Meanwhile, Vitek Vanecek is in a slump, posting an .869 SV% across his last eight games.
- 2 unit bet: STL ML -142
The Blues will get the Red Wings on the tail-end of a back-to-back with Magnus Hellberg in net. St. Louis will go with Joel Hofer for the third straight game after he’s gone 2-0 while stopping 65 of 67 shots (.970 SV%) in his first two starts. The Blues’ offence has been great recently, averaging 4.2 goals per game over their last six games, and Hofer has locked things down at the other end. Hellberg has struggled for Detroit, going 3-7-1 with a 3.04 GAA and .899 SV% on the season.
