Daily NHL Betting Guide – 10/20/22

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.
During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.
NHL MODEL PICKS
Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.
You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.
The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Columbus Blue Jackets (vs. NSH)
The Blue Jackets had a nice come-from-behind win over the Canucks on Tuesday and come into Thursday as sizeable home underdogs (+134). Juuse Saros and the Predators haven’t looked very sharp since returning from Europe and the model sees value on the Blue Jackets at +134.
0.5 Unit Bet: CBJ +134
Vancouver Canucks (@ MIN) +157
The bad news: The Canucks have blown four straight multi-goal leads. The good news: The Canucks have had multi-goal leads in four straight games. Tonight they face a Wild team that has not been able to keep the puck out of their net early-on and a struggling Marc-Andre Fleury gets the start. As pretty sizeable road underdogs (+157), the model sees plenty of value on the Canucks. Let’s just hope they hold onto the lead tonight.
1 Unit Bet: VAN +157
Buffalo Sabres (@ CGY) +253
The Sabres are coming off of an impressive win over the Oilers. Eric Comrie stood on his head to earn the win and now they’re in Calgary to take on an undefeated Flames team. It’s a tough spot but the Sabres have looked solid so far and tonight’s line is so far in Calgary’s favour (-292) that the model likes taking a shot on the Sabres. I’m really only interested if Comrie gets the nod though, so keep an eye on our starting goalies page for him to get confirmed.
0.5 Unit Bet: BUF +253 (if Comrie starts)
