Daily NHL Betting Guide – 11/03/22

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL odds site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets

Washington Capitals (@ DET) -119

The Capitals will be without John Carlson again on Thursday, but they haven’t looked too bad without him. They’ve lost both games but have forced both games to overtime against high-quality opponents (CAR & VGK). Tonight they’ll take on a Red Wings team that has lost three of their last four while being outscored 20-to-8. The model is not accounting for the Capitals’ injury, but it sees such an advantage that it remains a play at -119.

1 Unit Bet: WSH -119

Boston Bruins (@ NYR) +110

Getting the top team in the NHL (9-1-0) at plus-money seems like a good bet. The Bruins have been dominant at 5v5, ranking second in xGF/60 (3.5) and have the No.7 ranked PK, which should help slow down the Rangers’ top-ranked power-play. The Rangers have been held to two or fewer goals in five of their last seven games, while Boston is averaging 3.5 goals per game (2nd in the NHL). The line is +110, but the model sees the Bruins as slight road favourites (-119).

1 Unit Bet: BOS +110

Edmonton Oilers (@ NJD) -159

Both of these teams are red-hot. The Oilers have won five in a row while averaging 5.0 goals per game, and the Devils have four straight and seven of their last eight. The Devils continue to play dominant hockey, but they haven’t seen an offence like the Oilers yet. Additionally, Jack Campbell struggled on Tuesday, so Stuart Skinnge should start on Edmonton–he’s 2-1-0 with a 1.59 GAA and a league-leading .955 SV%. Edmonton comes in at -159, but the model sees them as the biggest favourite on the slate (-212)
