Daily NHL Betting Guide – 11/16/22

Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Betting site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets

Buffalo Sabres (@ OTT) +143

The Sabres have lost six games in a row while giving up an average of 4.8 goals against. Buffalo has now given up the sixth-most goals against per game (3.56) this season but are 15th in xGA/60, so goaltending has been the big issue. At the other end of the ice, Ottawa has the eighth-worst xGA/60 and ninth-worst GA/gm (3.52). These are two teams that have awesome offences and below-average goaltending. This game has the feel of a high-scoring barnburner, where literally anything can happen. The model sees it the same way, with Buffalo as +110 road underdogs. Embrace the chaos tonight and take Buffalo at +143 and hope they can score one more goal than they give up.

1 Unit Bet: BUF ML +143

Edmonton Oilers (vs. LAK) -137

The Oilers will be happy to be back on home-ice after a .500 road-trip out east. They’ll play host to a Kings team that had a four-game winning streak snapped in Calgary on Monday. With Cal Petersen starting for the Kings, it seems like an easy decision to back the high-powered Oilers. Petersen is 4-2-0 somehow, he’s posted a 4.06 GAA and .867 SV% in six starts this season. It hasn’t just been a short cold streak for Petersen either, he’s posted an .891 SV% dating back to the start of last season. Additionally, both of these teams are built pretty similarly to last season, where the Oilers won the season series 3-1.
