Welcome to our Betting Guide brought to you by NHL Betting site Betway!

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2022-23 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via Betway), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets

Boston Bruins (@ FLA) ML -101

The Bruins have been an absolute juggernaut this season. They are their second seven-game winning streak of the season and are 17-2-0 in 19 games. Their 5v5 play is nearly identical to the Panthers’, with Florida grading out better offensively but the Bruins better defensively. On special teams, the Bruins have the third-best PP and best PK. Simply put, they are good at everything. Getting a team this good at even money seems like a good bet, especially when the model sees them as -121 favourites. They’ve already beaten these Panthers as well, winning 5-3 in Boston on October 17th.

1 Unit Bet: BOS ML -101

Buffalo Sabres (vs. STL) ML +121

The Sabres come in on the tail-end of a back-to-back but snapped their eight-game losing stream in Montreal last night. The Sabres scored seven goals vs. the Canadiens and will look to build off of it against a Blues team that has won seven in a row. They should be in fine hands on the back-to-back, with 23-year-old Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen getting the start. He’s posted a .906 SV% in 14 career NHL games. Despite the Sabres losing eight of their last nine and St. Louis going 7-3-0 over the same stretch, Buffalo actually has better 5v5 numbers during that time. On the surface, this game seems lopsided, but when you dig in, the Sabres are great value at +121.

1 Unit Bet: BUF ML +121

New York Rangers (@ ANA) ML -155

Backing Jaroslav Halak has not worked a single time this season; he’s 0-4-1 with a 3.22 GAA and .883 SV%. However, if he’s ever going to win, it’s probably going to be tonight in Anaheim. The Ducks are second last in the NHL in goals per game and third worst in xGF/60. Additionally, they are second worst in xGA/60, so the Rangers should be able to provide Halak with plenty of goal support. At -155, the model views them as massive -190 road favourites and likes the Rangers on the ML.
