Daily NHL betting guide: April 18

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

New Jersey Devils (@ VGK)

The Devils are massive road underdogs in Vegas on Monday night but the model sees some value on the +300 line. New Jersey has gone 2-1-1 in the first four games of their five-game road trip. Since Jack Hughes got hurt, the Devils have gone 2-3-1 while averaging 3.0 goals for and 3.3 goals against per game.

As much value as the model sees, the Devils goaltending has been a huge issue. With that said, Mackenzie Blackwood is nearing a return and if that happens tonight, the +300 number looks even better.

Yaremchuk’s Pick – Carolina + Calgary regulation parlay (+123)

After a solid sweep on Friday, I’ll look to keep things rolling tonight with a classic regulation parlay. I like the Canes to roll over the Yotes. Carolina has lost two in a row but they really can’t afford to drop these points considering the race they’re in for a division title. Arizona has lost six in a row and just got waxed by the Flames. As for the Calgary pick here, they’re taking on a Hawks team that has one win in their last ten games and while the Flames have the top spot in the Pacific all but wrapped up, they showed on the weekend that they aren’t ready to take their foot off the gas yet.

Yaremchuk’s Prop – Elias Lindholm over 0.5 assists (+125)

This is a solid payout considering the matchup. The Hawks have allowed 21 goals against in their last five games, so I like the chances of Calgary putting up multiple goals tonight. Lindholm had three assists vs Arizona and while he’s been far from an assist machine this season, that top line for the Flames has been on fire and Lindholm has the best payouts out of the three. I’ll ride with him tonight.
