Daily NHL betting guide: April 20

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Arizona Coyotes (vs. CHI)

The Coyotes are on a seven-game losing streak and have been outscored 43-to-10 over that stretch. However, their last win came against the Blackhawks, who they will face again tonight. They’re 2-1 while outscoring the Blackhawks 10-to-8 in the first three meetings of the season.

Chicago has been nearly as bad in their last 11 games, losing 10 of their last 11 while getting outscored 4.5-to-2.6 on average. Something has to give tonight and the Coyotes have some value at +146.

1 Unit Bet: ARI +146

Yaremchuk’s Pick – Arizona vs Chicago over 6.5 (-110)

Well, with the sweep last night that means we are now UP 1.94 units on the season! BACK ON TOP! Tonight, I’m starting by taking the over in the Coyotes vs Blackhawks matchup. It’s set at 6.5 and paying -110. The over has hit in five straight games for both of these teams. So far in April, the Hawks are averaging a total of 6.58 goals per game while the Coyotes are averaging 7.00. Love the over here. I’m also taking the Oilers in regulation against the Dallas Starts. Since March 1st, the Oilers are 10-1-1 on home ice with an average of 4.50 goals scored per game. I feel good about getting them at -110 in regulation.

YaYaremchuk’s Prop – Alex Debrincat over 0.5 assists (+105)

The Hawks winger has hit this mark in three straight games and Chicago should be able to keep the offence going tonight. Not only is he on a three-game assist streak, but he has six assists in that span. +105 is good enough for me. I’m also taking Leon Draisaitl over 0.5 assists. He’s hit this in just about 50% of his games this season but has missed in five straight. Simply put: he’s due. He hasn’t gone six games without an assist since February of 2019.
