Daily NHL betting guide: April 7

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.
During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.
NHL MODEL PICKS
Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.
You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.
I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.
The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets
NYR/PIT Over 5.5 (-122)
This total has only hit in one of the three meetings between the Rangers and Penguins this season but the model likes it to go 2-2 tonight. With Igor Shesterkin’s game slipping a little bit as of late, the Rangers have had an average of 6.8 total goals in their last eight games–over 5.5 has hit in five of the eight.
Similarly, the Penguins have played in higher scoring games as of late as well. Over 5.5 has hit in six of their last eight, with a total of 7.4 goals per game.
1 Unit Bet: NYR/PIT Over 5.5 (-122)
Yaremchuk’s Picks
Yaremchuk’s Pick – Montreal vs New Jersey over 6.5 (-125)
I don’t love the payout here being down at -125, but I like this bet. Both of these teams have seen the over hit in three of their last four games and for the Devils specifically, it’s hit in seven of their last ten. I like this spot. I’m also taking the over in Columbus vs Philadelphia. These two teams met earlier this week and combined for six goals and tonight, the line is set at 6.5 and paying -115. The Flyers are going with Martin Jones, not Carter Hart, so that should help us get to the over here.
YYaremchuk’s Prop – Matt Duchene over 0.5 assists (+130)
Duchene has hit this mark in three of his last five games and tonight. The Predators are playing the Senators tonight so they should be able to get a little bit of offence going. Their top line has been good recently and Duchene is obviously a big part of that. I like him to get an apple at this price point.
