Daily NHL betting guide: December 15

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Lines to Watch

The model is on a 6-1 run in the last seven bets and must be worried about putting that sparkling record on the line tonight. Even though it’s not suggesting any bets at this time, it is pretty close on two of the favorites.

If you can find/if the line moves to where you can get the Washington Capitals around -121 and/or the Anaheim Ducks close to -140, then they would fall into the “Recommended Bet” category. So, keep an eye on these lines as the day moves along.

Recommended Bets

Arizona vs NY Rangers Over 5.5 (-110)

Neither of these two teams have been fantastic over bets recently. For the Coyotes, they’ve hit it in two of their four games so far this month, while the Rangers have only had more than six combined goals in two of their seven games this month.

Still, I like this spot. Scott Wedgewood has allowed at least three goals in each of his last five starts and I think the Rangers should be able to score three or more on him. On the flip side, the Rangers played last night and there’s a chance that Keith Kinkaid makes his season debut. I think this could very easily hit the over.

Alex Ovechkin Over 0.5 assists vs. CHI (-110)

The best pure goal scorer in the history of the game has actually been on a nice run of racking up assists. He’s picked up at least one in four of his last five games and is up to 24 on the year. Despite the fact that he sits fourth in the league in assists, this prop is still paying out -110, so I’ll take it.
