Daily NHL betting guide: December 17

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets

St. Louis Blues (vs. DAL)

The model put us in a similar position on Tuesday, recommending the Blues in Dallas. That bet went on to hit when the Blues won 4-1, so why not go back to the well tonight with the Blues back on home ice. The Stars will get Roope Hintz and Alexander Radulov back, but will be without Miro Heiskanen. St. Louis will stick with Charlie Lindgren in net and he’s been nothing short of spectacular in four starts. The 27-year-old is 4-0-0 with a 1.29 GAA and .956 SV% and looks like 2021’s version of Jordan Binnington in 2019.

1 Unit Bet: STL -103

Proceed with Caution ⚠️

Nashville Predators (@ CHI)

The shorthanded Predators were terrific last night but that was against an equally shorthanded Colorado team. It’s a lot to ask for this team to travel to Chicago and win with their backup goalie tonight.

Tyler Yaremchuk’s Picks

Game Pick

Penguins -1.5 vs. Buffalo (-121)

The Penguins are red hot right now and the Sabres are far from it.

Buffalo has lost the second night of back-to-back games all five times that it has been in that situation this season.

The Penguins have had two days off since their last game and they’ve won each of the last three times that they’ve had at least two days of rest between games. They’re also riding a five-game winning streak.

Prop Pick

Sidney Crosby Over 1.5 points vs. BUF (+145)

Double-dipping into this matchup and banking on Crosby being heavily involved in the Penguins offense tonight. He’s been very productive as of late with 15 points in his last 20 games.

Giving me plus odds on something that’s happened in four of the last five games? I’ll take it.

RECORD: 61-38-3 (+16.7 units)
