Daily NHL betting guide: December 8

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bet

New York Rangers (vs. COL)

The line opened with the Rangers around +130, but since the announcements of Darcy Kuemper returning to the Avalanche crease and Adam Huska expected to make his NHL debut for the Rangers, it has pushed out to +152.

The inflated line now has the model recommending a bet on the Rangers. There’s obvious risk in betting on a Rangers team that is on a back-to-back with a rookie netminder, but there’s plenty of value in the line.

New York has quietly won seven games in a row and has won eight consecutive on home ice. They’re now also leading the NHL in Points% (.771), so they should be able to win this game as long as Huska provides them with a reasonable goaltending effort.

Recommended Bet

New York Rangers/Colorado Avalanche over 6.0 goals (-125)

Plenty of reasons to think there will be lots of offense tonight in this matchup. I’ll start with the Rangers, who are playing the second of back-to-back games. They’re expected to start goalie Adam Huska, in what would be his NHL debut. This doesn’t necessarily seem like a recipe for success against a Colorado team that has scored 25 goals in its last five games. The Rangers have been scoring lots recently as well. averaging just under four goals per game over their last five. The over has hit in four of the last five for Colorado as well. I like the over in this one.

Roope Hintz over 0.5 points vs. VGK (-115)

The Dallas Stars’ top line of Jason Robertson, Roope Hintz, and Joe Pavelski has been one of the most dangerous lines in hockey recently, with that trio combining for 20 goals over their last 10 games. Betting on any one of them to get on the scoresheet tonight is probably a good idea, but Hintz is offering the best payout of Pointsbet, so I’m rolling with him. He has picked up points in eight of his last ten games, and I like his chances of getting the job done tonight.
