Daily NHL betting guide: February 1

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Model’s Picks

Recommended Bet

Ottawa Senators (@ NYI)

The model recommended the Senators vs. the Oilers last night and I faded, so who am I to fade it on back-to-back nights? Even with the injuries mounting, the Senators have played very competitively. The model still has the Islanders at a 60.4 percent chance of winning on Tuesday, but sees enough value in Ottawa at +188 to recommend a bet.

The Islanders have played 12 of their last 13 on home ice, going 8-4-1 in that span. However, five of those wins came against Philadelphia (x3), Arizona and Buffalo. They were 3-4-1 against the above-average competition, so this is certainly a beatable hockey team.

1 Unit Bet: OTT +188

Tyler Yaremchuk’s Picks

Game Pick

Colorado Avalanche (first period) -0.5 vs. Arizona Coyotes (-125)

The Avs have won the first period in three of their last five games and tonight, they have a great matchup against the Arizona Coyotes.

Scott Wedgewood is going to get the start for the ‘Yotes and he’s allowed 21 goals in his last five starts. The Avs are red hot, the Coyotes are not. I like Colorado to get off to a hot start and hopefully, I can get off to a hot start in February!

Prop Pick

Auston Matthews Over 0.5 assists at New Jersey Devils (-110)

Matthews picked up an assist, along with three goals, last night vs New Jersey and tonight is part two of their set of back-to-back games. Matthews has an apple in four of his last five games and has a total of six in that span. I like him to pick one up tonight.
