Daily NHL betting guide: February 14

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.
During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.
NHL MODEL PICKS
Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.
You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.
I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.
The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Model’s Picks
Recommended Bets
Minnesota Wild (vs. DET)
The Wild are massive favourites to start the week but the model still sees enough value on them at -229. The model sees Minnesota as the largest favourites on the slate (-290), giving them a 74.4 percent chance of winning tonight.
Minnesota has won 10 of their last 12 (10-1-1) while outscoring their opponents 4.0 to 2.2 per game.On the other side, Detroit has been better lately but overall they have been dreadful on the road this season. They have gone 7-12-3 while being outscored 3.9 to 2.5 per game.
1 Unit Bet: MIN -229
San Jose Sharks (vs. EDM)
The Sharks return to action on Monday, playing their first game since January 1st. They will be well-rested but hopefully not rusty. They are sizeable home underdogs (+141) vs. the Oilers but the model sees it as a much closer matchup. Edmonton is coming off of an impressive win over the Islanders on home ice but are 3-3-3 while giving up an average of 3.4 goals per game in their last nine road games.
1 Unit Bet: SJS +141
Yaremchuk’s Picks
Game Pick: Toronto -1.5 vs Seattle (+105)
After two straight losses, I like the Leafs to bounce back tonight in their game against the Kraken. Toronto has covered the puck line in three of their last four wins and Seattle has only won two of their last five. Despite two straight losses, Toronto is still 7-3-0 in their last 10 as well. This is a good team playing a bad team. Simple as that.
Prop Pick: Kevin Fiala over 0.5 assists (+120)
The Wild are pretty big favourites tonight vs. Detroit and Fiala has been on a decent roll as of late. He has picked up an assist in four of his last five games and seven of his last ten. The Red Wings have allowed 18 goals against in their last five games as well. I think Minnesota should be able to get some goals in this one and I think Fiala has a great chance of being involved.
