Daily NHL betting guide: February 16

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.
During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.
NHL MODEL PICKS
Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.
You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.
I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.
The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Model’s Picks
The model is not recommending any bets on Wednesday but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a little fun with prop bets.
BONUS PROP BET
Jack Eichel Over 0.5 Goals (+206)
Eichel will make his season and Golden Knights debut on Wednesday and the odds on him scoring in his debut are extremely high. A +206 line gives you a great payout for a player that averages over 3.5 shots per game in his career. The matchup isn’t the best but the Avalanche are on the tail-end of a back-to-back and you have to believe Eichel is going to be looking to put a show on in front of the Vegas crowd. Skating on the top line with Max Pacioretty and top power-play unit doesn’t hurt his chances either.
1 Unit Bet: Eichel Ov 0.5 Goals (+206)
Yaremchuk’s Picks
Game Pick: Calgary -1.5 (+130) vs Anaheim
The Flames have won seven in a row and while they did play last night, it was a relatively stress-free victory as they beat the Blue Jackets 6-2, and they also played Dan Vladar in that game which means Jacob Markstrom will start tonight. He’s only allowed nine goals in his last five starts and that will be trouble for a Ducks team that has just four wins in their last 10 games and only averaging 2.7 goals per game in that span.
Game Pick: Team Canada & under 6.5 goals vs USA (-125)
Not a great payout, but things are always tight when these two go head-to-head in big games. Canada won 4-2 earlier in the tournament and I think they will win again tonight. Their offence has been unstoppable and even though the USA outshot them in that preliminary round game, Canada still walked away with a two-goal win. Both goalies are very good as well, so I think this one will stay low-scoring, but this Canadian squad looks too good to lose.
