Daily NHL betting guide: February 17

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.
During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.
NHL MODEL PICKS
Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.
You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.
I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.
The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets
Winnipeg Jets (vs. SEA)
The Jets have not been shy to go to Connor Hellebuyck on back-to-back nights this season and we have him projected to start again. The Jets are battling to get back into the playoff race and their top-line comes in on fire. Meanwhile, the Kraken continue to struggle to get reliable goaltending and will go right back to Philipp Grubauer tonight, after he was pulled vs. Toronto on Monday.
Winnipeg dominated the first meeting of the season, shutting out the Kraken 3-0. The model expects a similar result tonight. Even though they are only -132 favourites, the model sees them as much bigger favourites (-194).

Proceed with Caution ⚠️
Ottawa Senators (@ BUF)
While this is certainly a matchup the Senators can win as +116 road underdogs, missing Thomas Chabot proved to big to overcome on Tuesday. Without Chabot, Josh Norris and Drake Batherson, the Senators could have a tough time staying afloat. Additionally, they’ve been battered on the road this year–going 8-11-3 while being outscored 3.5-to-2.9 this season.
Anaheim Ducks (@ EDM)
This is another tough one. The model is mostly seeing who the Oilers were under Dave Tippett. Since Jay Woodcroft was brought in, they’ve been better in a very small sample size. It would be good to let the model digest some of their games before jumping on the Ducks on a back-to-back.
Yaremchuk’s Picks
Game Pick: Columbus Moneyline vs Chicago (+120)
After going 2-0 last night and nailing the plus money bet with the Flames puckline, I’m rolling with another plus money bet tonight. I love the Blue Jackets in this spot. They’ve been playing some great hockey lately with five wins in their last seven games. Now, they’ve beaten some pretty bad opponents in that span but luckily for them, they get to go up against the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. The Hawks have just three wins in their last ten games and tonight, they’re expected to be starting Arvid Soderblom, who has allowed seven goals in just five career periods of NHL hockey. The Blue Jackets really shouldn’t be underdogs here, so I’m picking them on the moneyline at +120.
Prop Pick – Mika Zibenejad over 0.5 assists (-130)
The Rangers will be going up against a Red Wings team that allowed seven goals to the Minnesota Wild earlier this week. They should be able to score and Zibenejad has been pretty consistent when it comes to getting assists lately. He’s hit this mark in three of his last five and also six of his last 10. In that span, he also has a total of 11 assists. The price is fair and the matchup is good.
