Daily NHL betting guide: February 20

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Model’s Picks

Recommended Bets

Carolina Hurricanes (@ PIT)

The model is hungry for some plus-money bets today but there’s only one that I can get behind. The Hurricanes are among the NHL’s best teams and whenever you can get them at plus-money, it seems like good value. On Sunday afternoon they are +110 in Pittsburgh but the model views Carolina as -116 favourites.

Proceed with Caution ⚠️

Montreal Canadiens (@ NYI)

The Canadiens have certainly been better since Martin St. Louis stepped behind the bench and they may be worth a few shekels but with Andrew Hammond starting his first NHL games since April 22nd, 2018 it is definitely risky.

Arizona Coyotes (vs. DAL)

The Coyotes are also massive underdogs tonight (+221) but I’m staying away due to their goaltender as well. Karel Vejmelka started last night, which means Scott Wedgewood will likely go today. Wedgewood has a 3.23 GAA and .903 SV% in 18 games with the Coyotes and the Stars’ netminder, Jake Oettinger, is red-hot right now.

Yaremchuk’s Picks

Game Pick: Vegas in regulation vs San Jose (-105)

There is actually a lot I like about this slate today. I’m starting with the Golden Knights, who lost in OT to the Los Angeles Kings on Friday night. Vegas has just five wins in their last 10 games, which isn’t great, but they’re going up against a Sharks team that has just two wins in that span. They also haven’t won since coming out of the All-Star Break. I think the Golden Knights will be able to win this game. I also really like taking the Rangers on the puck line today. The Sens are playing the second of back-to-backs and the Rangers are rested. Once I see that Shesterkin is confirmed, that will be my second play.

Prop Pick – Roope Hintz assist (+115)

It is not very often that I go back to a player who I recently missed on, but I really like this spot for Hintz. The Stars should be able to get their offense going against a Coyotes team that has allowed 20 goals in their last five games. Hintz didn’t record a helper last game but has three assists in his last five. Give me the plus money payout here.
