Daily NHL betting guide: February 21

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Model’s Picks

Recommended Bets

Carolina Hurricanes (@ PHI)

The model went 3-0, all with plus-money bets, on Sunday, including Carolina +110 in Pittsburgh. The Hurricanes aren’t plus-money this afternoon, as they are -194 in Philadelphia. Still, the model sees them as massive -259 favourites and is recommending a bet on them for the second day in a row. Improving their chances on Monday is the fact that Antti Raanta started yesterday, which means Frederik Andersen will go today. Andersen is 7-1-1 with a 1.70 GAA and .938 SV% in his last nine road games.

1 Unit Bet: CAR -194

Yaremchuk’s Picks

Game Pick: Carolina puckline vs Philadelphia (+120)

Afternoon hockey on a Monday! I love the Hurricanes in this spot. They’re coming off a win yesterday over the Penguins and they did it with Anti Raanta between the pipes. Today, they should be going with Freddie Andersen and they’re playing a Flyers team that has just two wins in their last 10 games. Philadelphia has also only covered the puckline once in their five games in February. I’m also on the Avalanche in regulation as I explained on The Daily Faceoff Show.

Prop Pick – Tavares over 0.5 assists (-120)

The Leafs are playing Montreal tonight so they should be able to get some offence going. Tavares has picked up an assist in four of his last five games and seven of his last ten as well. To their credit, the Canadiens have been playing better as of late and aren’t allowing as many goals against but they still played last night and I don’t think they’ll be able to keep the Leafs off the board. Give me a Tavares assist!
