Daily NHL betting guide: February 7

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.
During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.
NHL MODEL PICKS
Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.
You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.
I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.
The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Model’s Picks
In the first night back from the All-Star break, the model is not recommending a bet on the small two-game slate. If you are hungry for action, it sees Carolina +117 as the most valuable bet right now.
BONUS: Prop Bet
Nico Hischier Over 0.5 Assists (+129)
With Jack Hughes out due to COVID-19 protocol, Hischier will be forced to take on a more offensive role. He will slide right onto the top line with Jesper Bratt and Yegor Sharangovich. Playing with Bratt immediately makes him more dangerous. Together, Hischier and Bratt have a 3.2 xGF/60 this season, that number dropped to 2.3 without Bratt.
Hischier has stepped up offensively when they’re without Hughes this season, posting 0.53 assists per game when Hughes is out versus 0.23 assists per game with Hughes in the lineup.
Tyler Yaremchuk’s Picks
Game Pick
Carolina moneyline vs Toronto (+105)
The Hurricanes have the best road points percentage in the NHL, the seventh-best GF/GP on the road, and the second-best GA/GP on the road. The Canes have only been underdogs seven time this season and they’re 4-3-1 in those games. The Leafs have been winning lately but haven’t been getting great goaltending. They will be in tough tonight against a Canes team that is very good at preventing offence. I like the value on the Canes as road dogs here.
Prop Pick
Brady Tkachuk over 0.5 assists (+150)
The Senators are going up against a New Jersey Devils team that allowed a total of 23 goals in their last five games before the All-Star Break and I don’t think they’re magically going to get better in that regard now. I like taking Tkachuk to grab an assist because the value is there at +150 and the Senators should be able to produce offence. he has four apples in his last game and while he’s only hit this mark in five of his last ten, the +150 payout is enough for me to take this risk.
