Daily NHL betting guide: February 8

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

NHL MODEL PICKS

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Model’s Picks

For the second straight night, the model and the sportsbooks view the games very similarly. As a result, the model is not suggesting a pick at the current lines.

BONUS: Prop Bet

Andrew Copp Over 0.5 Goals (+249)

With Pierre-Luc Dubois going into COVID-19 protocol on Monday, Copp will move up to centre a line with Kyle Connor and Cole Perfetti. He will also move up to PP1, putting him into the best possible position to succeed on Tuesday.

At +249, there’s plenty to like about a Copp goal-scoring prop tonight.

If you’re not willing to go as far as Copp scoring a goal, the Over 2.5 Shots (-149) prop also looks very good. He’s on pace for a career-high in shots and is already averaging over 2.5 shots per game on the season. Moving up the lineup at 5v5 and on the PP will give him more opportunity to get to at least three shots vs. Minnesota.

Tyler Yaremchuk’s Picks

Game Pick

Carolina -1.5 vs. Ottawa (+105)

The Canes let me down yesterday in pretty disappointing fashion, but I like them to bounce back tonight. Carolina has a winning record in the second half of back-to-back games, and the Senators are 2-4-1 in that situation. I like that this is plus money too. Win big tonight, and all is forgiven, Carolina! I’m also on the over in New Jersey vs Montreal, as I explained on The Daily Faceoff Show.

Prop Pick

Gustav Nyquist over 0.5 points (+120)

Plus money for a guy who was riding a three-game point streak heading into the All-Star break? Sign me up! He also plays on the Blue Jackets’ top line so he will get plenty of minutes. The Jackets are also going up against the Capitals third-string goalie, Pheonix Copley.
