Daily NHL betting guide: February 9

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.
During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.
NHL MODEL PICKS
Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.
You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.
I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.
The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Model’s Picks
Arizona Coyotes (@ SEA)
The Coyotes lost 5-1 in Vancouver last night but outshot the Canucks 36-to-29 and won the Expected Goal battle 2.7-to-2.1. Obviously, that doesn’t matter in the Win-Loss columns but it’s a positive sign heading into Seattle on Wednesday. Arizona won the first meeting between these two teams, 5-4 back in early November.
Even though the model sees Seattle as -137 favourites, the sportsbooks have Seattle at -267, so there’s huge value on the Coyotes +181.

Tyler Yaremchuk’s Picks
Game Pick
Edmonton in regulation vs. Chicago (-125)
The Oilers did not get the start to the second half of their season that they wanted with a loss to Vegas last night, but they are 2-1-0 in the second half of back-to-back games this season. They’ve been very good in this scenario since Dave Tippett took over as their head coach. Chicago lost three in a row before the All-Star break and they’re just 8-12-4 on the road this season. Edmonton’s also won three of the last four Stuart Skinner starts.
Prop Pick
Jared McCann over 0.5 points (-150)
He’s hit this in five of his last six games and has racked up a total of seven points in that span as well. I don’t trust Seattle to cover the puck line or anything like that tonight, but they should be able to score some goals against an Arizona team that just gave up five last night and is on the second half of back-to-back games.
