Daily NHL betting guide: January 19

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.
During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.
NHL MODEL PICKS
Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.
You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.
I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.
The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Model’s Picks
Recommended Bets
New York Rangers (vs. TOR)
The Rangers come into Wednesday’s game on a pretty run, winning six of their last eight games while averaging 3.0 goals for and 1.9 goals against per game. Igor Shesterkin returned to the crease last Thursday after 11 days off and has won both of his starts since, stopping 65 of the 65 shots (.969 SV%) that he’s faced. In his last 14 starts, he’s 12-2-0 with a .945 SV% and two shutouts.
As long as Shesterkin is between the pipes, the Rangers seem like a solid bet, especially as +128 home underdogs. Helping the Rangers’ case is the fact the Maple Leafs will be without Jake Muzzin (concussion), Justin Holl (COVID-19 protocol) and Ondrej Kase (COVID-19 protocol).
1 Unit Bet: NYR +128 (if Shesterkin starts)
Tyler Yaremchuk’s Picks
Game Pick
Colorado Avalanche First Period -0.5 at Anaheim Ducks (+115)
The Avalanche have walked out of the first period with a lead in three of their last five games, while the Ducks have only led after the opening 20 minutes once in their last five games. The Avalanche are red hot and I like them to get rolling early tonight against the Ducks.
Prop Pick
Cale Makar Over 0.5 assists at Anaheim Ducks (-135)
Sticking with the Avalanche, I like Cale Makar to extend his assist streak to seven games tonight. He’s picked up an apple in seven of his last ten games and he’s a big part of the Avs powerplay which will go up against a Ducks PK that ranks 23rd in the NHL since the start of January
