Daily NHL betting guide: January 24

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.
During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.
NHL MODEL PICKS
Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.
You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.
I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.
The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Model’s Picks
Recommended Bets
Anaheim Ducks (@ BOS)
The Ducks have lost 10 of their last 13, while being outscored 3.3 to 2.3 per game. Meanwhile, the Bruins have won 11 of their last 13, while averaging 4.0 goals for and 2.8 goals-against per game.
These appear to be teams headed in opposite directions, yet the model sees enough value on them at +228 to recommend a bet.
1 Unit Bet: ANA +228
St. Louis Blues (@ CGY)
The Blues are on the tail end of a back-to-back, but come in playing terrific hockey. St. Louis has won six of its last seven and is 13-3-1 while averaging 3.9 goals for and 2.3 goals-against per game since Dec. 7th. The Flames are reeling, losing nine of their last 12.
Despite being the hotter of the two teams, St. Louis is a pretty sizeable underdog (+141) on Monday.
1 Unit Bet: STL +141
Tyler Yaremchuk’s Picks
Game Pick
Colorado Avalanche -1.5 vs. Chicago Blackhawks (-131)
The Avalanche are an incredible 11-0-1 this month and I like their chances of keeping the hot streak going tonight as they head to Chicago. They’re averaging 4.00 goals a game so far in January and they get to face a Hawks team that’s only averaging 2.45 goals per game.
Colorado’s power play has also been solid this month and the Blackhawks’ PK is 23rd in the league in January. Plenty of reasons why I’m backing the Avs tonight.
Prop Pick
Mike Zibanejad Over 0.5 assists vs. Los Angeles Kings (+105)
With six assists in his last three games, I’m surprised Zibanejad is +105 tonight to grab another one. The Rangers are favorites in their matchup against the Kings, who have allowed 19 goals in their last five games. Zibanejad has 27 assists in 42 games this season — I think he gets one tonight.
