Daily NHL betting guide: January 26

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.
During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.
NHL MODEL PICKS
Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.
You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.
I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.
The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Model’s Picks
The model is not suggesting any bets on Wednesday.
BONUS Player Prop
Matthew Tkachuk Over 0.5 Assists
Tkachuk is coming off of an absurd five-assist performance vs. the Blues. It was the third straight game that he’s registered an assist and the ninth time in 13 games–a total of 15 assists in that stretch. The Flames’ top-line has a good matchup on Wednesday.
Columbus likes to match up its fourth line against the opposition’s top line; the trio of Sean Kuraly, Eric Robinson and Yegor Chinakhov is giving up 30.1 Scoring Chances Against/60 and 10.5 High-Danger Chances Against/60.
1 Unit Bet: Tkachuk OV 0.5 Assists (+109)
Tyler Yaremchuk’s Picks
Game Pick
Toronto Maple Leafs -1.5 vs. Anaheim Ducks (-115)
The Leafs are 5-2-1 so far in January and have averaged 3.75 goals for per game. The Ducks have a record of 4-6-0 this month and have been outscored 32-24. This is simply a good team against a mediocre team and on top of that, the Leafs have been dynamite on home ice this season. Jack Campbell has been poor as of late and that does concern me, but I still think the Leafs will be able to win by at least two on home ice tonight.
Prop Pick
Tom Wilson Over 0.5 points vs. Sharks (-135)
The Washington Capitals have struggled to score this month. But tonight they’re going up against a Sharks team that has struggled to keep pucks out of their own net. They’ve allowed 3.20 goals per game and that’s fifth-worst in the league.
Backstrom has six assists in 10 games so far this season and he’s back on the top line with Alex Ovechkin. He also plays on the top power-play unit and while the Caps’ power play has struggled this month, the Sharks’ PK is in the bottom half of the league in January.
