Daily NHL betting guide: November 17

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bet

Colorado Avalanche (@ VAN)

Even with Nathan MacKinnon, JT Compher and Bowen Byram out, the Avalanche still come in as -158 road favorites. A lot of that has to do with the Canucks being on the brink of destruction. They have lost four in a row while being outscored 22-8. Overall, they are 5-9-2 on the season and it could be worse if not for Thatcher Demko’s outstanding play.

Without MacKinnon last Wednesday, the Avalanche destroyed Vancouver 7-1. They have gone 3-1-0 while outscoring opponents 20-10 in four games without MacKinnon. With Vancouver in shambles, Colorado on three days rest, the Avalanche are a strong bet at -158.

1 Unit Bet: COL -158

Chicago Blackhawks (@ SEA)

Since firing Jeremy Colliton and promoting Derek King, the Blackhawks have gone 3-0-0. They have gone from 2.17 goals for and 3.92 goals-against per game under Colliton to 2.33 goals for and 1.33 goals-against in a small sample size under King. They have been significantly better defensively thus far and Marc-Andre Fleury has flourished in the new system. He’s stopped 64 of 67 shots (.955 SV%) in his last two outings and should be in the crease on Tuesday.

With the Kraken ranking 24th in the NHL in xGF/60 (2.17) and SCF/60 (25.9), the Blackhawks should be able to keep this a low-scoring game and they have more firepower with Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat up front.

As pretty sizeable +131 underdogs, the model recognizes Chicago as slight favorites (-101), making them the best underdog to bet on tonight’s three-game slate.
