Daily NHL betting guide: November 3

Getting a little skin in the game can make watching NHL hockey even more exciting.

During the 2021-22 season, Daily Faceoff will help you become an improved bettor thanks to this betting model and our betting tools.

Each day we will look at each game, the Sportsbook Odds (via PointsBet), and the odds of each team winning based on the model created by Philip Bulsink. Based on those two numbers, we can quickly identify which teams we need to bet on, which teams to avoid and which lines to keep an eye on throughout the day.

You can quickly determine which teams are the best bets by following this simple table:

All “Recommended Bets” are 1 unit wagers.

I will also provide some analysis on the best bets and update this post throughout the day to point out big injury news, lineup changes, and backup goalies starting.

The number to keep an eye on is the “Diff.” which is the percentage difference between the model’s projected Win% and the projected Win% based on PointsBet odds. To find out how odds turn into percentages, use our Odds Calculator.

Recommended Bets

Carolina Hurricanes (@ CHI)

The Hurricanes are the only undefeated team left in the NHL and will look to get to 9-0-0 tonight in Chicago. The Blackhawks are coming off of their first win of the season but face a difficult test vs. the Hurricanes on Wednesday. Carolina crushed Chicago 6-3 last Friday and are -150 favorites on PointsBet tonight. The model likes them at -214 tonight, so you’re getting plenty of value on one of the league’s best teams.

Through the first month of the season, Carolina leads the NHL in 5v5 GF% (74.07) and Chicago is last (25.00) so this is a lopsided matchup.

1 Unit Bet: CAR -150

Proceed With Caution ⚠️

Colorado Avalanche (vs. CBJ)

The model loves the Avalanche tonight but there are some outside factors that have brought their odds down to -140. Jonas Johansson will start. Cale Makar and Mikko Rantanen are out. Andre Burakovsky is doubtful. This isn’t the same Avalanche team. With Nathan MacKinnon still in the lineup, they could certainly win this matchup but there is much more risk than what the model is seeing.
