Penguins vs Flyers | OddsShark Matchup Report
Opening NHL Odds: Pick’em -111 Odds
One of the NHL’s best rivalries will start the 2021 regular season when the Flyers face the Penguins. The home team has won four of the past five meetings between these Pennsylvania clubs, and the last time Pittsburgh won at Philadelphia (4-1) was February 11, 2019 as a -120 road favorite. The OVER and UNDER have alternated in the last six between the teams as well, with the Flyers blanking the Penguins 3-0 to easily go below the total of 6 in the most recent home meeting at the Wells Fargo Center on January 21, 2020.
Canadiens vs Maple Leafs | OddsShark Matchup Report
Opening NHL Odds: Maple Leafs -145 Favorites
An intriguing North Division matchup will happen Wednesday in Toronto when the Maple Leafs host the Canadiens as solid home chalk. Toronto is favored to win the North this season, but the team’s biggest weakness is between the pipes with goaltender Frederik Andersen. Meanwhile, Montreal’s biggest strength is in net with Carey Price still among the best goalies in the league. The Canadiens have won each of the past four meetings with the Maple Leafs, holding their opponent to two goals or less in the last two. But Toronto has won four of the previous five games played between the teams at home. The OVER has cashed in five of the past six meetings too, with those five all seeing seven goals or more scored.
Blackhawks vs Lightning | OddsShark Matchup Report
Opening NHL Odds: Lightning -222 Favorites
The defending Stanley Cup champion Lightning are massive favorites here against the Blackhawks, who pulled off a huge upset in the most recent meeting. Chicago closed as a +190 road underdog on February 27 of last year but won 5-2 behind a hat trick from Dominik Kubalik, with all three goals happening in the third period and the team rallying back from a 2-0 deficit. Tampa Bay had won eight straight games in the series between 2016 and 2019. The Blackhawks won four in a row prior to that, including three during the 2015 Stanley Cup Final.
Canucks vs Oilers | OddsShark Matchup Report
Opening NHL Odds: Pick’em -111 Odds
The Oilers will try to start the season on a positive note after finishing up another disappointing campaign when they host the Canucks. Edmonton was knocked out in the preliminary round of last year’s playoffs by Chicago despite playing at home, and this will be the first of back-to-back games for both teams as they play each other again on Thursday. The Canucks have won three of their last four games when playing the front end of a back-to-back situation, and they have a strong goaltending tandem this year with the addition of Braden Holtby as a free agent to spell 25-year-old Thatcher Demko, who was outstanding in three postseason starts against the Vegas Golden Knights. The Oilers have also won three of four under the same scenario.
Blues vs Avalanche | OddsShark Matchup Report
Opening NHL Odds: Avalanche -145 Favorites
Two of the best teams in the West Division will clash in Denver when the Avalanche host the Blues. Colorado is one of the favorites to hoist the Stanley Cup this year in addition to Vegas, and the team has won the past three meetings with St. Louis, with all of them coming at home. The Blues won the Cup in 2019 and put together a six-game series winning streak between 2018 and that year, going 2-0 at Ball Arena during that stretch and outscoring their opponent 6-2. The OVER has cashed in three of the previous four meetings following a 3-0 UNDER run.
