Capitals vs Sabres | OddsShark Matchup Report
Opening NHL Odds: Capitals -135 Favorites
Washington and Buffalo will be playing the second game of a back-to-back situation on Friday, with the former struggling a bit under this scenario last season yet trying to get off to a 2-0 start. The Capitals won 6-4 as -130 road favorites in the season opener for both teams on Thursday, but they have lost three straight when playing the back end of consecutive games after winning four in a row in this situation. Meanwhile, the Sabres have seen the opposite happen, winning three of their last four following a four-game skid in the second game of a back-to-back.
Penguins vs Flyers | OddsShark Matchup Report
Opening NHL Odds: Pick’em -111 Odds
Philadelphia doubled up Pittsburgh 6-3 in the opener for both teams on Wednesday after closing as a small -105 home underdog. The Flyers got four points from winger Joel Farabee (one goal and three assists) while goaltender Carter Hart stood tall between the pipes by stopping 31 of 34 shots. The Penguins outshot their opponent 34-25 overall, but they were outscored 3-0 in the final 15 minutes after Brandon Tanev tied the score at 3-3 at the 3:01 mark of the third period. The home team has won five of the past six meetings in the series.
Blackhawks vs Lightning | OddsShark Matchup Report
Opening NHL Odds: Lightning -233 Favorites
Tampa Bay looked like the defending Stanley Cup champion in its opener on Wednesday with an easy 5-1 win over Chicago as a -250 home favorite. The Lightning played like the favorites to win the Central Division by jumping on the Blackhawks early, leading 3-0 after the first period and then adding a goal in the second and third as well. Chicago did not light the lamp until Dylan Strome scored in the last few minutes to prevent the shutout, as goalie Malcolm Subban also continued his struggles as a starter by giving up all five goals. Tampa Bay has won nine of the past 10 meetings, with the UNDER going 4-2-1 in the last seven matchups.
Maple Leafs vs Senators | OddsShark Matchup Report
Opening NHL Odds: Maple Leafs -179 Favorites
Toronto got off to a great start Wednesday with a 5-4 overtime victory again Montreal as a -145 home favorite, showing off its offensive firepower and making an early statement as the team to beat in the North Division. Morgan Rielly scored the game-winning goal for the Maple Leafs in OT after they rallied back to tie things up on three different occasions. Toronto goalie Frederik Andersen was bit shaky in giving up a 3-1 lead halfway through the game, but his teammates were able to come back and help him earn the win. The Senators will be playing their season opener here and have lost the past three meetings with the Maple Leafs along with six of nine.
Blues vs Avalanche | OddsShark Matchup Report
Opening NHL Odds: Avalanche -149 Favorites
St. Louis started strong and showed Colorado that its roster is still among the best in the league on Wednesday in a decisive 4-1 victory as a +130 road underdog. The Avalanche entered the season as the favorites to hoist the Stanley Cup, but the Blues were the better team throughout, with Oskar Sundqvist scoring two goals and goalie Jordan Binnington making 26 saves in the win. Colorado netminder Philipp Grubauer did not play particularly well for the home team despite stopping 28 shots, allowing two goals in the first period and two more in the third. The Avalanche had won the previous three meetings in the series, with all three coming at home.
