Blue Jackets vs Blackhawks | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Pick’em -110 Odds

Chicago will be happy to be back home for the first of two games versus Columbus after staying winless on the road with a pair of losses to the Nashville Predators earlier this week. The Blackhawks struggled to score in getting swept at Nashville, totaling only three goals combined in the two losses after winning their first two home games against the Detroit Red Wings by a 10-3 margin just prior to that. Of course it is easy to point to the different competition level, but Chicago was also without winger Alex DeBrincat and defenseman Adam Boqvist, who were placed on the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol list Monday.

Regardless, the Blackhawks dropped both games to the Predators in extra time, so they were very competitive in each of them. Chicago saw goaltender Kevin Lankinen make a career-high 41 saves in Wednesday’s 2-1 shootout loss as a +160 road underdog, and he has proven to be the team’s best option between the pipes, so he could start again here. The UNDER is on a 3-1 run for the team too after starting 1-3 in the first four games.

Meanwhile, the Blue Jackets will be playing the second game of a back-to-back situation after wrapping up a two-game series with the Florida Panthers. Columbus defeated Florida 3-2 in a shootout as a -105 home underdog on Thursday to pull off a two-game split for the third consecutive series. The Blue Jackets have lost four of five in the second game of a back-to-back, including two straight, and they have also dropped three of the past four meetings with the Blackhawks along with five of seven. The UNDER has cashed in four of the last five in the series and six of eight, and it is 5-3 overall for them this year as well.
