Hurricanes at Islanders | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Islanders -140 Favorites

Jordan Staal scored the game’s only goal in overtime on Friday night to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 win over the Islanders and a 1-0 lead in this best-of-seven second-round playoff series. Carolina had been listed as a +125 road underdog in that easy UNDER result on the totals, with Petr Mrazek making 31 saves for the shutout on the day. Islanders counterpart Robin Lehner also had 31 saves on the night, with New York listed as -145 chalk for the contest.

The Hurricanes have now won five of their last six games, and they’ve also won three in a row after knocking off the Capitals in Games 6 and 7 of their first-round series last week. The Islanders suffered their first loss of the playoffs after sweeping the Penguins in the first round. The UNDER has now paid off in seven of the Islanders’ last eight games at the sportsbooks.

Avalanche at Sharks | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Sharks -145 Favorites

Gustav Nyquist, Joe Thornton, Kevin Labanc, Brent Burns, and Timo Meier all found the back of the net on Friday night as the San Jose Sharks ran over the Colorado Avalanche 5-2 as -135 home betting favorites at sportsbooks to take a 1-0 lead in this second-round playoff series. Gabriel Bourque and Colin Wilson provided the goals for the Avalanche in the losing cause, with San Jose goaltender Martin Jones stopping 26 of 28 Colorado shots on the night.

San Jose rides a four-game winning streak into Game 2 of this series on Sunday, after winning three straight against the Golden Knights last round to come back and close out that first-round set. The OVER has paid out for totals bettors in seven of the Sharks’ last nine games at the sportsbooks. Colorado saw a four-game win streak come to an end on Friday.
