Bruins vs Islanders | OddsShark Matchup Report
Opening NHL Odds: Bruins -126 Favorites
New York entered Boston’s TD Garden hoping for at least a split of this East Division second-round playoff series during Memorial Day Weekend and got just that by pulling off a 4-3 overtime victory in Game 2 as a +170 road underdog on Monday. The Bruins had won Game 1 two days earlier 5-2 as -190 home favorites, as both also easily went OVER the closing total of 5. They will be trying to regain their home-ice advantage in Game 3 on Thursday as a small road favorite after seeing their five-game winning streak snapped.
The Islanders have won four of their last five games, including their last two at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round. Their past three overall have gone OVER as well dating back to that series, and it will be interesting to see if they stick with veteran goaltender Semyon Varlamov here. Varlamov earned the win in Game 2 and made 39 saves, stepping in for rookie Ilya Sorokin after he suffered his first postseason loss in Game 1. Both have excelled at home, as Sorokin went 9-1 during the regular season with a 2.06 goals-against average and Varlamov was 12-3-3 with a 1.87 GAA.
Hurricanes vs Lightning | OddsShark Matchup Report
Opening NHL Odds: Lightning -140 Favorites
Tampa Bay brings a 2-0 series lead back to Amalie Arena for Game 3 of this Central Division second-round playoff matchup with Carolina. The defending Stanley Cup champion Lightning have won each of the first two games by identical 2-1 scores, scoring once in the second and third period of each to put themselves in excellent position to advance to the next round. The Hurricanes have not scored until the third period of both games and fell as -120 home favorites in Game 2, with the UNDER cashing for the second straight time to open the series.
The goaltenders have been the difference so far, as Tampa Bay’s Vezina Trophy finalist Andrei Vasilevskiy has stopped 68-of-70 shots in the first two games – also allowing only two goals in his last three starts combined – while Carolina’s Alex Nedeljkovic has surrendered at least two goals in six straight games since blanking Nashville in Game 2 of the first round. The UNDER has cashed in the last four games overall for the Lightning, who have won six of the past eight meetings with the Hurricanes after losing four of the previous five in the series. The UNDER remains on a remarkable run in this series, going 10-1-1 dating back to 2019.
