Hurricanes vs Lightning | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Lightning -137 Favorites

Carolina got a much-needed win in Game 3 at Tampa Bay on Thursday and will try to head back to Raleigh with this Central Division second-round playoff series tied at 2-2 after Game 4. The Hurricanes edged the Lightning 3-2 in overtime as +130 road underdogs in Game 3 after losing the first two games in this series by identical 2-1 scores at home. Carolina captain Jordan Staal scored his second OT goal of the postseason at the 5:57 mark on the power play to give his team a shot in this series.

The Hurricanes actually got the first two goals in Game 3 too after the Lightning tallied the first one in each of the first two, and they also made a goalie switch to veteran Petr Mrazek (35 saves) after rookie Alex Nedeljkovic had started the first eight games of the playoffs. However, Tampa Bay has not lost consecutive games since dropping three in a row between May 7 and 10, and the UNDER has cashed in the team’s last five overall. The UNDER has also continued on a torrid run in this series, going 11-1-1 in the past 13 meetings.

Bruins vs Islanders | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Bruins -135 Favorites

New York will attempt to rebound and win Game 4 on home ice again versus Boston in their East Division second-round playoff series after doing the same in the first round. The Islanders are coming off a 2-1 overtime loss to the Bruins as +130 home underdogs on Thursday to fall behind 2-1 in the series. But New York did the same thing against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round before turning around that series with a 4-1 upset victory as a -105 home underdog in Game 4.

The difference this time around is that the Isles are counting on veteran goalie Semyon Varlamov rather than rookie Ilya Sorokin. Varlamov has played well in the last two games for New York, stopping 78-of-83 shots (.940 save percentage) in splitting a pair of OT results. Boston counterpart Tuukka Rask was great in his bounce-back opportunity in Game 3 though, making 28 saves after giving up four goals in Game 2 at home. With that victory, the Bruins have won six of their last seven games overall along with five of the past six meetings.
