Islanders vs Lightning | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Lightning -175 Favorites

New York will meet Tampa Bay in a rematch of the 2020 NHL Eastern Conference Final starting on Sunday at Amalie Arena, with the home team listed as a solid favorite. The defending Stanley Cup champion Lightning eliminated the Islanders in six games last postseason, with the entire series played inside the bubble at Rogers Place in Edmonton. Tampa Bay won the first two games by a combined score of 10-3 before New York picked up its first victory 5-3 in Game 3. Also worth noting is that Games 5 and 6 were both 2-1 games decided in overtime, with the Islanders winning the first of the two in double OT.

This year, the Lightning have closed out each of their first two series with a pair of shutouts thanks to the stellar goaltending of Vezina Trophy finalist Andrei Vasilevskiy, who stopped 142 of 151 shots (.940 save percentage) in five games against the Carolina Hurricanes. The UNDER is on a 6-1 run in Tampa Bay’s last seven games. Meanwhile, New York will be looking to avenge last year’s playoff loss and knocked out the favored Boston Bruins in six games during the second round. The Islanders have found themselves as underdogs in 11 of their first 12 games this postseason, the exception being a pick’em Game 3 versus the Pittsburgh Penguins that they lost 5-4 at home in the first round.

Unlike the Lightning, the Islanders have seen the OVER go 5-1-1 in their previous seven games. New York has also lost 16 of the past 22 meetings with Tampa Bay dating back to 2016, with the UNDER going 6-3-2 in the last 11 games between them, including 3-2-1 in the 2020 playoffs.
