Canadiens vs Golden Knights | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Golden Knights -260 Favorites

An unlikely matchup will take place in the second Stanley Cup semifinal playoff series starting on Monday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, as the heavily favored Golden Knights host the Montreal Canadiens. Vegas is the top seed remaining in the third round after eliminating the Colorado Avalanche last Thursday in the second with a 6-3 rout as a -135 home favorite in Game 6. The Golden Knights pulled off their fourth consecutive win over the Avalanche after losing the first two games by a combined score of 10-3, outscoring them 14-6 the rest of the way, with the OVER cashing in the last two at home in front of a full house.

Meanwhile, Montreal completed a four-game sweep of the Winnipeg Jets in the second round a week ago Monday and has won seven in a row dating back to the first round after rallying back to upset the Toronto Maple Leafs in their opening series. The Canadiens limited the Jets to a total of three goals in the last three games of the series following a 5-3 victory in Game 1 as +130 road underdogs.

Montreal has enjoyed some surprising success versus Vegas in six all-time meetings, winning five of them – all by one goal – with the OVER going 5-1 as well. The lone victory in the series for the Golden Knights was 6-3 at home on February 17, 2018. These teams have not met since January 18, 2020, when the Canadiens won 5-4 in a shootout as +105 home underdogs. Montreal led 3-0 at the end of the first period only to have Vegas tie it up 4-4 with eight seconds left in regulation before Tomas Tatar beat his former team with the game-winner in the SO.
