Islanders vs Lightning | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Lightning -185 Favorites

Tampa Bay will try to bounce back from a surprising loss in Game 2 of this Stanley Cup semifinal series against New York on Tuesday. The defending Stanley Cup champion Lightning fell 2-1 to the Islanders as -190 home favorites in the series opener on Sunday, with the UNDER cashing for the seventh time in their last eight games. Tampa Bay had gone 4-2 the previous six times the total finished UNDER, although this time New York struck for the first two goals before giving up one in the final minute with Game 1 all but decided.

Mathew Barzal tallied his fourth goal of the playoffs to start the scoring a little more than halfway through the second period for the Islanders before his teammate Ryan Pulock scored his fourth at the 5:36 mark of the third. Brayden Point had his team-leading ninth goal for the Lightning on the power play. Tampa Bay head coach Jon Cooper admitted afterwards “our minds weren’t there,” so bettors should expect a much more focused effort in Game 2 knowing that the team cannot afford to head to New York down 2-0.

That said, the Islanders continue to cash as underdogs and reward their backers, winning four straight games in that role and seven of 10 this postseason. The Lightning have still won 16 of the past 23 meetings, with the UNDER on a 7-3-2 series run.
