Avalanche vs Stars | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Avalanche -120 Favorites

The Avalanche staved off elimination with a 6-3 win as -115 favorites in Game 5 against the Stars on Monday, and they should close as chalk for the 20th consecutive time in Game 6 on Wednesday. Colorado has not been an underdog since February 29 at Nashville and remains a favorite in this spot despite possibly starting a third-string goaltender in another elimination game. The Avalanche surprisingly went with Michael Hutchinson between the pipes in place of the struggling Pavel Francouz, who joined regular injured starter Philipp Grubauer as unfit to play. Hutchinson was solid in Game 5, stopping 31 of 34 shots, after Francouz had given up four goals or more in each of his three starts after Grubauer’s injury.

However, perhaps a bigger surprise in Game 5 was the return of goalie Ben Bishop for Dallas. Bishop had not appeared in the playoffs since August 13, and he has now surrendered four goals in each of his three postseason starts. The Stars figure to go back to Anton Khudobin here though with another chance to eliminate their opponent, and a fast start could again be the key in Game 6. Dallas jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period in Game 4 en route to a 5-4 victory, and Colorado followed suit by going up 5-0 in Game 5 before allowing a goal. Those fast starts have certainly helped OVER bettors go a perfect 5-0 in this series so far. In fact, the OVER has cashed in eight straight games for the Avalanche and six in a row for the Stars overall as well.
