Lightning vs Stars | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Lightning -148 Favorites

The Lightning evened the 2020 Stanley Cup Final with a 3-2 win over the Stars in Game 2 on Monday as -160 favorites, and they now will look to take a 2-1 series lead with another victory in Game 3 on Wednesday.

Tampa Bay struck early in Game 2 with three goals in the first period, as Brayden Point, Ondrej Palat and Kevin Shattenkirk all scored to give the team a 3-0 lead. Point’s goal was only his second in five games and first since Game 4 against the New York Islanders in the Eastern Conference Final. Dallas got goals from Joe Pavelski and Matthias Janmark, with Alexander Radulov assisting on both to narrow the gap and cover the puckline.

The Stars saw their four-game winning streak end, and they had also won six of their previous seven games before this defeat. Dallas goaltender Anton Khudobin looked human for the first time since suffering a 3-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 2 of the Western Conference Final, but he still made 28 saves and recovered from that rough first period to shut out the opposition over the final 44:44. Despite this setback, the Stars are 6-2 in their last eight games as underdogs, and the UNDER is 4-1-3 over that stretch.

The Lightning are hoping to have captain Steven Stamkos back on the ice in Game 3 after he participated in the morning skate prior to Game 2 but could not go. Stamkos has been recovering from core muscle surgery for the past seven months, and Tampa Bay has not really needed him as of yet. While the Lightning are an NHL-best 15-6 overall this postseason, they are just 3-3 in their last six to lose money for their backers recently during that shorter time after closing as favorites in each game.
