Stars vs Lightning | OddsShark Matchup Report
Opening NHL Odds: Lightning -175 Favorites
The Lightning can win their first Stanley Cup since 2004 on Saturday when they battle the Stars in Game 5 after earning a 5-4 overtime victory in Game 4 as -160 favorites on Friday. Tampa Bay has been favored in every game of this series, going 9-3 over its last 12 games in that role dating back to Game 3 against the Boston Bruins in the second round of the playoffs. Dallas fell to 6-4 in its last 10 as an underdog after losing for the third time in four games here.
The Stars took an early 2-0 lead in Game 4 but saw the Lightning battle back to go up 4-3 in the third period before Joe Pavelski forced OT with his second goal of the night. Then a costly tripping penalty by Dallas winger Jamie Benn helped Tampa Bay defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk score the game-winning goal at the 6:34 mark of the extra session.
Regardless, the Lightning have totaled five goals in each of the last two games as the OVER has cashed each time while the Stars lost for just the third time in 13 games when scoring three or more goals. The OVER is 4-2-1 in the last seven losses for Dallas, and it will be interesting to see if the team sticks with Anton Khudobin between the pipes or decides to give Ben Bishop or Jake Oettinger the nod in what could be the last game of the year. If Bishop gets the call, he would be facing his old team that he played with during the 2015 Cup Final.
Whatever the Stars decide, they will be playing on back-to-back nights with their season on the line, and they have lost three times in a row and four of five in this situation. On the other hand, Tampa Bay has won four of five and seven of nine when playing the second game of a back-to-back.
