Welcome to Daily Faceoff’s daily NHL roundup where we bring you the NHL’s most important news and rumours every day.

Edmonton Oilers ink Kahun

The Edmonton Oilers have inked free agent forward Domink Kahun to a one-year contract paying him $975k. Born in the Czech Republic, he grew up in Germany alongside now teammate Leon Draisiatl, where the pair scored 398 points between them in 2010-11 in the U-16 league.

Kahun has taken the long road having been undrafted and returning to Germany to play in the DEL. He made his NHL break in 2018-19 and since then, he’s played in 138 games scoring 25 goals and 68 points.

Chicago to read land acknowledgements

The Chicago Blackhawks announced Sunday that the team would open their home games  and other events moving forward with an Indigenous land acknowledgement.

The club also announced other plans to celebrate and honor Indigenous people on Sunday with November being Native American Heritage month.

“The Chicago Blackhawks continue to grow in our commitments to honour and celebrate Black Hawk’s legacy by offering our platforms, making meaningful contributions, collaborating with Native American people, and reimagining ways to support the many Native American people and communities we live amongst and alongside,” the team said in a statement.

“Part of this work will include working with Native partners in educating our staff, fans and local community on the history of Black Hawk and original peoples of Illinois, as well as on Native American contributions to today’s society. We will also continue to expand our investments in Native individuals and communities. Through these initiatives, we endeavour to build a community that is informed and respectful of Native American people and their culture.”

Canes ink Foegele

The Carolina Hurricanes inked Warren Foegele to a one-year, $2.15-m contract avoiding arbitration.

This year he set career highs in goals (13), assists (17), points (30) in 68 games last year. Foegele also appeared in eight playoff games where he scored one goal — the series-clincher in the qualifying round against the New York Rangers.

“Warren has shown improvement each year of his professional career,” said Hurricanes President and General Manager Don Waddell in a release. “We expect him to continue to develop and enhance his role on our team.”
