DailyFaceoff/Corsica NHL Bets (October 26th)

The Corsica Hockey bet predictions went 1-1 on the Highest Value and Highest Probability bets on Thursday, bringing this post to 14-5 (73.7%) on the season. The Canucks were too banged up (missing Brock Boeser, Elias Pettersson, Alex Edler, Chris Tanev and Sven Baertschi) to overcome the Coyotes last night, but the Devils 4-3 overtime loss covered the +1.5 spread.

After an extremely busy Thursday night, there are just four games on the Friday slate—including an early start in Vegas because of Nevada Day.

Highest Value

Ottawa Senators @ Colorado Avalanche — Moneyline | OTT (+185)

This will be Matt Duchene’s first game back in Colorado since his first game with the Senators back in November of last season. Duchene had 10 shots in back-to-back games vs. the Avalanche, but failed to record a point.

Both of these teams have been surprising to a certain degree. The Senators are playing much better hockey than anyone expected through eight games. Many prognosticators had them as bottom-feeders heading into the season after trading Erik Karlsson. However, Ottawa comes in averaging the fifth most goals for per game (3.63) in the NHL to go along with the No.10 ranked power-play.

On the Colorado side of the puck, the Avalanche come in tied for 12th in scoring (3.30 GF/PG) and are 6-2-2 through their first 10 games. The Senators will catch a break with Semyon Varlamov watching this one, but Philipp Grubauer appears to be getting more and more comfortable with every start.

This game is tilted in Colorado’s direction, especially considering they are 30-12-3 on home-ice since the start of last season. With that said, taking the Senators at +185 provides great value for those of you willing to take a risk—Corsica Hockey suggest 0.67 betting units on this game and gives the Senators a 37.7 percent chance of pulling it off.

Highest Probability

San Jose Sharks @ Carolina Hurricanes — Spread | CAR +1.5 (-301)

This is the most intriguing matchup of the night. The Hurricanes and Sharks have been the two most dominant teams at 5v5 so far this season.

CF%SCF/60SCA/60SC +/-
SJS61.10 (1st)35.59 (1st)21.92 (2nd)13.67
CAR61.09 (2nd)32.01 (2nd)24.69 (11th)7.32

The Hurricanes have been held back by their special teams in the early going, but got things going in Detroit in their last outing—2-for-3 on the power-play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. Petr Mrazek also had his best performance of the season agains the Red Wings and will be fighting for his job again tonight. The Hurricanes certainly have the offence and the blueline to keep this game within two goals, even with how powerful the Sharks have been at 5v5.
