DailyFaceoff DFS Value Plays – January 2nd

We’ve got a big 13-game slate tonight, and several players at each position are jumping out as great value options who are either in critical roles for their team or proving great production.
This value sheet includes salaries, projections for DraftKings and FanDuel, and three punt defencemen options.
These projections don’t tell you exactly what’s going to happen. One game sample has too much randomness to pin down exact predictions. Instead, the projections represent a player’s average performance on average if that matchup was played repeatedly. There is a wide range of possible outcomes, and the projections represent each player’s average of those possibilities.
Gustav Nyquist (W, NSH) – vs. CHI – (DK-$4,100 / FD -$5,200)
DFO Projection: DK-8.97 / FD-13.31
Nyquist and NSH1 are popping tonight in a great matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks. He’s the top value play among all forwards $6k and lower on both websites. He’s also due for some scoring, with scoring .2 goals per hour under expected.
Jake DeBrusk (W, BOS) – @ CBJ – ($3,700 / $5,000)
DFO Projection: DK-8.8 / FD-11.45
We love to target players against Columbus, and DeBrusk has a great matchup. While David Pastrnak is the highest projected value on the slate, Debrusk isn’t far behind for Boston and comes in signifcantly cheaper. He has good shot volume, and has .4 goals per hour under expected.
Philippe Myers (D, TBL) – @ WPG – ($2,500 / $3,500)
DFO Projection: DK-6.89 / FD-8.33
The Tampa Bay Lightning are playing only five defencemen tonight, and Myers is one of them. He’s minimum price, and that’s about all we need him to be an excellent value play. He should get more than enough icetime to 2x, and potentially 3x his salary.
Jared Spurgeon (D, MIN) – vs. CGY – ($4,300 / $4,400)
DFO Projection: DK-8.81 / FD-11.41
Spurgeon is projecting as a better play on FanDuel, but is rock solid on both sites. He returned from injury Saturday, and put up 10.8 DKFP, and will look to continue producing against Calgary tonight.
Igor Shesterkin (G, NYR) – vs. CAR – (DK $7,900 / $7,700)
DFO Projection: DK-12.8 / FD-17.4
Shesterkin looks like a strong play on both sites, and has played well against Carolina in his past. He’s 4-3 in the regular season against them with a 2.47 GAA and .918 save percentage, giving up three or fewer goals in six of those games.
Top 3 Punt Defencemen
- Ryan McDonaugh, NSH ($3,200/$4,300): DK-7.12 / FD-9.33
- Alex Vlasic, CHI ($3,200/$3,600): DK-6.5 / FD-8.26
- Chris Tanev, CGY ($3,700/$3,700): DK-6.08 / FD-87.67
