The DailyFaceoff Morning Report will be released on weekdays, recapping the key news and events from the day before.
We will highlight injuries that will affect today’s games, hot streaks, cold streaks, and anything relevant for everyone from the casual hockey fan to the Fantasy Hockey grinder.
Leafs win third straight
Michael Bunting opened the scoring with his 19th goal of the season, passing Tanner Jeannot of the Nashville Predators for most goals by a rookie. Petr Mrazek stopped 30 of 33 shots in the victory and has started three of the last five games for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Auston Matthews was held off the scoresheet for only the fifth time in his last 33 games but made a goal-line stand to save a goal in the first period. It was only the fifth time in 384 career regular-season games that Matthews did not register a shot on goal.

John Carlson picked up three assists for the Capitals and now has 11 points (2G / 9A) in his last 11 games.
Hughes, Devils playing like offensive juggernaut
Nico Daws got the fifth start of his career and has started two of the last three games for the New Jersey Devils. He saved 36 of 38 shots in a 7-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks and now has consecutive wins for the first time in his young career. In their last six games, the Devils have allowed four goals or more in all but the two games that Daws started.
Jack Hughes had another multi-point game (1G / 1A) and now has 13 points (5G / 8A) across a seven-game point streak. Yegor Sharangovich, who has been terrific playing alongside Hughes, extended his point streak to seven games as well, posting 11 points (5G / 6A) in that span.
